Developing a Church Missions Program
Missions Policy
(A Sample Chapter in Get Involved)
What is a missions policy? Why is it important? A mission policy is a document that guides the entire missions program of the church. It is a roadmap that points direction. Without a clear statement of policy the missions program is like a ship without a radar device. Some churches do missions without a clearly written missions policy, but a church should take time to prepare this important document so the missions committee will be able to function well.
The missions policy shows responsibilities and spells out working relationships. It also insures continuity and builds up confidence. Members of the missions committee come and go, but the policy will keep the program going. Moreover, it is plain Christian stewardship. It prevents waste of time and financial resources.
