Warning: Division in the Church Cannot Be Accepted
(A Sample Chapter)
Look at Titus 3:10: “Warn a divisive person once, and then warn him a second time. After that, have nothing to do with him.” And if you’re not sure what that means, this may help: strike one; strike two; you’re out! Perhaps that’s a rather crude way of putting it, but the apostle Paul speaks so forcibly, so seriously, so solemnly about division in the church of Jesus Christ that he says it’s totally unacceptable.
I think one of the weaknesses of the church in the contemporary setting is that we have become soft in the whole area of division. We have not realized how serious it is for people who profess to be a body of believers to live in such a way that it is perfectly obvious they are not a body. Often we simply faint over the cracks; we whitewash the situation, hoping it will go away; or we pretend it never came about. As a result, in many instances, the church of Jesus Christ loses her credibility. That’s why we need to read carefully what the apostle is saying.
