1960’s

In the month of August 1961, Christ for Greater Manila was started by a number of national leaders and missionaries led by Rev. Wil Bruce. The purpose of the new organization was to win the lost of the Greater Manila area and channel them to Bible-believing churches through youth rallies, tent campaigns, camping short-term Bible school, tract distribution and training programs.

  • Youth Rally was held at Philippine General Hospital
  • Sponsored Bible quiz program at DZAS
  • Began tract distribution
  • Boys and Youth Camps for the underprivileged 

 

1970’s

  • When Rev. Wil Bruce left for the US, the leadership of CGM was turned over to Rev. Douglas Lee Nichols.
  • In the same year, CGM helped set up and sponsor the Philippine Home Bible League (now known as The Bible League Phils.)
  • A small book table in churches was started by Mrs. Adela Flores which now is the result of the CGM Literature Ministry
  • The beginning of Film Ministry
  • Started Pastors Library Assistance Program which aims to help Christian workers and Pastors and Bible school students obtain good, used Bible study books to equip them in their ministry.
  • The Bible School Student Summer Internship Program was held to provide practical experience for graduating Bible school students and to assist them in obtaining funds for their school expenses.
  • The beginning of Christian Workers Conferences and Seminars
  • CGM became the official outlet for Project CLAIM (Christian Literature for Asians in Ministry).
  • Jail Ministry was started
  • Formally dedicated the Home of Joy, located at Araneta Street, San Antonio Village, Pasig, Metro Manila.
  • Public Health Outreach was organized
  • CGM first Tagalog film, Anim Ang Namatay was produced
  • CGM purchased a 1.6 hectare of land in Silang, Cavite for its 2nd Mile Discipleship and Vocational Training Program.
  • At the close of the decade, two more ministries were added – Action Company (Music and Drama Team) and Alay Pag-ibig Child Care Center

 

1980’s

  • Midnight Ministry, an outreach to street children in Luneta, Morayta, Avenida, Malate and Cubao was started in 1983.
  • CGM Bookstore, Philippine Home Bible League, Film Ministry and the Administration moved to a new location at 292 Shaw Blvd., Mandaluyong City. On July 23, the new office was dedicated and formally opened.
  • The Christian Home Bible Fellowship Ministry was born.
  • In 1985, a yearlong intensive evangelistic and discipleship effort dubbed as Manila ’85 was launched.
  • CGM Midnight Rescue Center was opened to serve as temporary home for the street children in Metro Manila. Later it was called Alay Pag-asa Rescue Ministry.
  • The Lighthouse Ministry Center opened in September.
  • August 15, 1986 was a memorable date, for CGM celebrated its 25th year at the Manila Hilton’s Grand Ballroom.
  • During April and May in 1987, CGM launched You Need Christ Campaign – using gospel tracts, posters, and gospel ads to saturate Metro Manila with the gospel.
  • CGM marked another milestone of faith when it signed a contract with Philippine Mental Health Association on January 30, 1988, for the purchase of 17.2 hectares of land in Dasmarinas, Cavite. Thus, Project Jabez was born.
  • Another Tagalog film, Paglingon Sa Kinabukasan was produced.
  • As a year-ender, CGM launched Christmas ’88 – an evangelistic and gift-giving program in jails, depressed areas in Metro Manila.
  • January 30, 1989, exactly a year after CGM signed the contract with PMHA for the purchase of land in Cavite, it settled its last payment for the land.

 

1990’s

  • After 20 years, Mr. Doug Nichols resigned as CGM Director and left for the US.
  • During the first part of this year, CGM suffered its first setback when it went through internal problems, leading to temporary closure. It reopened on March 15.
  • Nineteen ninety to 1992 saw the new beginning of CGM – new challenges, financial and spiritual difficulties. A time of sifting. But by God’s grace, these difficulties were overcome. During the transition period, the Board appointed Ms. Flor Jalotjot as OIC to lead the organization. New programs and strategies were implemented. The name Christ for Greater Manila was changed to Christian Growth Ministries. No longer as big an organization as before, it is now smaller in ministries and programs – yet with much bigger vision.
  • In 1992 Project Jabez Campsite was dedicated and formally opened to Christian community for retreats, seminars, conferences, camps and sports activities.
  • Home of Joy transferred to its permanent home in Project Jabez. Also, Home of Joy adapted new programs such as Residential Care, Foster Family Care, Community and Preventive Support Program. Three houses and a multi-purpose hall were built for this program.
  • CGM expanded its mission work in the Dumagat tribes in Aurora province and Nueva Ecija in partnership with New Tribes Mission-Phils.
  • In 1995, the first CGM Pastoral Care Conference was held at Project Jabez Campsite.
  • First Tribal Camp was hed at Project Jabez Campsite
  • Video Film Library was added to the Film Ministry
  • In 1998, Rev. Mike Lacanilao was installed as CGM President.
  • And finally before the decade ended,the HOJ’s Shining Light Kiddie Center, later changed to Jabez Christian School located at Project Jabez Ministry Center was dedicated and started.

 

2000’s

  • CGM completed and dedicated to the Lord the additional two residential houses for Home of Joy at Jabez Ministry Center in Cavite.
  • Building of 4 duplex cabins at Jabez Campsite
  • CGM acquired its own new building at 129 13th Avenue, Cubao, Quezon
  • Elementary classrooms and Business office of Jabez Christian School
  • Construction of Jabez Campsite Swimming Pool and Resort.

Evangelism was at the core of CGM’s vision. Through its Mission Outreaches, CGM partners with church planters and local missionaries to reach the least evangelized provinces and ethnic groups of the Philippines with the Gospel.

 

Church Assistance Ministry

Assists and equips pastors, church leaders and workers in evangelism and discipleship through mission outreaches, jail ministry and seminars and conferences.

True to what Jesus said in Matthew 25:36, “I was in prison and you came to visit me…”, CGM assists and equips local churches to conduct discipleship programs for prisoners in selected jails in Metro Manila. Jail workers are equipped, mobilized and united for effective service and ministry.

 

 

Previous Events and Updates:

One-Day Conference at NBP Sampaguita Compound

On September 2008, CGM in partnership with Action International Ministries conducted a One-Day Conference at National Bilibid Prison (NBP). Missionaries of ACTION, Dr. Rod Pence and Steven Blakeman discussed the meaning of “True Worship”, they also challenged and encouraged them using the book of Romans. The conference was attended by 100 inmates.


RVO’s Half-Day Seminar

A Half-Day seminar for Religious Volunteer Officers was also held outside the Sampaguita compound of NBP. The seminar was attended by 37 RVOs.

 

Two Days Discipleship Training at Mandaluyong City Jail

21 inmates were challenged and encouraged to live a life pleasing to God, to share their personal testimony as followers of Christ and to share the gospel to other prisoners.

Child Sponsorship Program – provides educational assistance to less privileged Children (ages 7-15) years old in the community through partnership with local churches. REMINDERS: Please leave the rooms on check-out time. Our housekeeping will clean the rooms for the next group. Any excess of two (2) hours will be considered one half (1/2) day. Excess of three (3) hours is considered one (1) full day.

  1. Reservation must be paid 2 months before the actual date of the camp.
  2. The reservation/deposit fee for accommodation and food must be 30% of the total number of occupants. This is non-refundable.
  3. No group considered booked unless the 30% reservation fee is paid. Failure to deposit on the agreed date and deadline would mean cancellation of tentative reservation. Campsite has the right to cancel unpaid deposits without prior notice.
  4. The total bed capacity of the Campsite is 256 persons.Campsite has the right to accept other group if  your reservation is below 85 persons.
  5. Groups who insist to use the Campsite exclusively will pay a total P46,080 unoccupied rooms/day.
  6.   For 2 groups who will use the Campsite,the group with the highest number of participants will be assigned in the Chapel area. Group with smaller participants will be assigned in the Session Hall or Mini-conference. First come,  first served basis only.
  7. During summer or peak season(April & May) reservation should not less than 85 persons.
  8. Payment by check should be made 3 weeks in advance.Checks should be payable to Christian Growth Ministries,Inc.   9.  No checks  are  allowed as payments during the actual date of the camp We accept cash only.
  10. Cancellation of scheduled booking should be two (2) months before the actual date of the camp. Failure to comply to this policy will mean the forfeiture of your deposits for accomodation and food.
