1 & 2 Timothy
(Sermon Outlines for Preaching and Teaching)

Personally, the author has always admired the friendship and camaraderie of Paul and Timothy. He doesn't seem to sense traces of irritants and misunderstanding between the two, unlike other workers in the ministry, then and now.

Being apart in years, Paul has called Timothy "a son in the faith," "a beloved brother," and a fellow worker." What a growth in Timothy's relation and Paul-from a son, to a sibling and a colleague in the ministry.

Somehow, you will sense this kind of rapport between Paul and Timothy in these two epistles. What a model to us.

Enjoy the outlines!

The Prayer of Our Lord

The beauty in the simplicity of the Lord's Prayer is that it touches all of life. Though its words are few, it expresses our very need-from salvation to daily bread-and our gratitude at God's gracious provision for everything. Jesus taught it to His disciples two thousand years ago, but this model prayer still teaches us today. It reminds us that God is our protector and provider, and it comforts us in trial and despair. Many instinctively turn to this prayer in times of crisis and great need. Todd Beamer prayed the Lord's prayer on Septemer 11, 2001, as the struggle for control of United Flight 93 began.

It is the greatest prayer in the Bible because it comes from the heart of our Savior to His heavenly Father. Pastor Philip Ryken looks at the power and truth within each phrase of the Lord's Prayer, draws in other biblical passages, and reveals the practical pattern for prayer that holds the promise of changing your life. Here is not only a deeper understanding of the living God's power and presence, but also the peace and contentment, hope and forgiveness, truth and assurance that came from God alone through prayer.

The Master's Perspective on Pastoral Ministry

Shepherding the people of God is a biblically-honored and noble labor, patterned after the life of the Good Shepherd, Jesus. God has delegated this difficult task to human shepherds who will be accountable to Him for their efforts. The contributors to this work, all leading Bible scholars, offer exhortation and encouragement for those who faithfully lead the flock of God.
